After a period when Bissell launched product after product, they eventually came up with the “Pet Hair Eraser” series. The Bissell 1650A is the upright version of this series, and it’s been renewed with countless features appreciated by pet lovers.

No matter if you have a hairy companion in your life or a wife or daughter with long hair, this vacuum cleaner will keep your house hair-free – and with air that is easily breathable.

Introducing The Bissell 1650A Vacuum

As the name of the series implies, the Bissell 1650 was manufactured with pet owners in mind. With its tangle-free brush roll, this machine will prevent the hairs from wrapping – and therefore, not compromise the efficiency of the vacuum.

A feature worth bringing up is the “cyclonic hair spooling system.” With this, the dirt and the hairs are separated, getting clumped together so that it’s easier for you to empty.

This vacuum cleaner also features HEPA filters that will trap the dust and allergens inside, keeping the air nice and clean. It’s a good solution for those suffering from asthma or other respiratory issues.

The 1560A is a bagless vacuum cleaner that is very easy to clean. All you will have to do is push the side button and release the contents into the trash can. Since everything is “spooled” together, it won’t get stuck in the container.

The lower part of the vacuum features a swivel steering technology, which makes it very easy to maneuver it among obstacles. It also has a hose that is long enough to clean a whole flight of stairs.

Overall, here are the features offered by the Bissell 1650:

  • It has a tangle-free brush roll that prevents hair from blocking the motorized brush
  • It features the Febreze Pet Odor Eliminator filter that stops the smell from coming out of the exhaust
  • HEPA filter to keep allergens sealed in the container
  • Cyclonic spooling system that separates the hairs from the rest of the debris
  • LED crevice tool that will allow you to clean pet hair from furniture and stairs
  • 30-feet power cord
  • Swivel steering
  • It has 5-amp motor
  • 12” cleaning path
  • Weight of 18 pounds
  • It features 5-year warranty

Overall, this vacuum is a very good choice if you have plenty of carpets in your home – and a lot of pets to keep it furry.

The Results

One of the biggest problems when dealing with brush rolls is that they usually tend to tangle a lot of hair. You sometimes spend more time untangling it that you do cleaning the whole house.

With this Bissell upright vacuum, however, I had no such problem. The hair was collected by the brush and then “spooled” inside the bin. You’ll no longer have to pick or untangle anything with your hands.

Since the hair is clumped together, it will fall much easier from the container once you open it over the trash bin. You’ll no longer have to reach inside in order to pick and release the hair.

The Febreze odor eliminating system is also a nice touch. While the machine still features a HEPA filter, the Febreze offers a second layer of security. You won’t feel any smells in the air, nor will you feel any allergens tickling your respiratory system.

Bissell 1650A Review

The 8-foot hose is a great addition that turns this into a very versatile vacuum cleaner. Not only can you clean the rug, but you can also easily cover a flight of stairs or the upholstery of your furniture.

Last but not least, the suction ability and cleaning performance is superior. The on/off brush feature allows you to go from rugs to hard floors with just the press of a switch.

While this vacuum works perfectly on hardwood floors, it offers the best performance on carpets. Therefore, you may only want to choose it if you have plenty of carpets in your home.

What Other People Say

I’ve seen people who claim this is the best vacuum for pet hair that they’ve ever laid their hands on. Someone even called it magical, since it actually manages to collect hair without tangling it all over.

Some people claim that it works better with dog hair, but cat hair is also nicely cleaned – although you may need a few extra passes.

There were a few complaints that it’s fairly difficult to maneuver – but considering that it weighs 18 pounds, there’s no surprise there.

What We Liked

I liked that even if my house is fairly big, I didn’t have to open it up even once. The canister is very spacious, so I can go all around the house – and even more – without having to empty it.

The suction power is also more than perfect. It can pick up anything from fine hairs to larger debris – all this without disturbing the air. Every allergen is collected.

What We Didn’t Like

It’s kind of heavy, so it is indeed fairly difficult to maneuver. Plus, while I do appreciate the Febreze filter, it’s pretty expensive if you want to replace it.

Buying Advice

You may get this from the producer’s website, but making the purchase from Amazon might bring you free shipping along with a pretty good discount.

You have a 5-year guaranty from the manufacturer, but if you want some extra security, you can add an extension from Amazon.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this is a very good vacuum for pet hair if you live in a house with many carpeted areas. It has a strong suction power, filters that will keep your allergies at bay, and you can use it on floors and furniture alike.

It may not be perfect, and it may be kind of heavy, but it will clean the pet hair just nicely. It’s hassle-free and will save you a lot of time with the maintenance.
