In this review, we are going to talk a little more about the features of the PetSafe Basic In-Ground Fence, but we are also going to give you an overview of what people who have purchased the dog fence had to say about their overall experience with it.

Then, we’re going to give you our recommendation on whether or not this invisible dog fence is something you should consider purchasing for your property!

About The Product

The PetSafe Basic In-Ground Fence is your basic in-ground fence that is affordably priced, but it offers some the essential features you may be looking for, such as run through prevention, anti-linger and safety time out. Overall, this system can cover about 5 acres and it is suitable for dogs that are as small as 8 pounds, and as large as 125 pounds!

Notable features of the PetSafe Basic In-Ground Fence include:

  • Fence has up to 1/3 acre coverage – up to 5 acres with purchase of additional wires and flags
  • Lightweight collar designed for dogs over 8 pounds and neck sizes between 6 and 26 inches
  • Waterproof and adjustable collar provides 4 levels of static correction plus tone-only for training
  • Uses RFA-67 batter with a 1 to 2 month life expectancy
  • Low battery indicator
  • Includes a surge protector to protect your fence from surges or spokes

This fence is the basic in-ground fence system. It features 4 adjustable levels of correction that creates an static shock. It also includes a beep only mode for when your pet doesn’t need the actual shock, but just a little reminder.

There is an over stimulation protection feature that will stop the static correction automatically if it has been activated for 30 seconds. There is also an anti-linger prevention feature that automatically gives your pet a quick static shock when they linger in the warning zone for more than 2 seconds.

This system comes with one collar, but you can purchase additional collars if you need to. The nice part is the system is compatible with multiple types of collars. This gives you the ability to mix and match the collars based on the size of the dog, but also their temperament. The transmitter and system is capable of handling an unlimited amount of collars.

What Others Say

When looking at what people had to say about the PetSafe Basic In-Ground Fence, we noticed that many customers had some impressive things to say about this system. Customers reported that they liked having the ability to mix and match compatible collars.

They went on to say they have different sized dogs, and by having the ability to get different PetSafe collars made their lives so much easier. Customers also commented that they liked having the ability to customize the fence system to suit their yard, regardless of the shape and size.

Customers liked that the system included an over correction protection feature. They felt a little more at ease leaving their dogs outside unattended if something were to happen that caused the dog to activate the collar, it would shut off automatically in 30 seconds. People also liked that this unit came with a limited lifetime warranty.

At the other end of the review pool, there were some customers who were not pleased with this containment system and they had some critical comments. Of the most common complaints people had was that this system is challenging to install.

Some commented that splices in the wiring were a prime spot for breakage and water damage. Others commented that the system stopped working when it snowed because it caused a “blind” spot.

Other customers commented that the correction signal was not strong enough for stubborn dogs. These dogs were able to escape the yard, despite still wearing the collar. One customer did point out that there is a PetSafe collar designed specifically for stubborn dogs that you can purchase and it would work with this system.

Another complaint people had was that after installing the fence, it would work great for a period of time, and then it would stop all of a sudden. This seemed to range between 3 months and 8 months.

Final Thoughts

There are many different types of invisible fences currently on the market, but you don’t need an overpriced system. The PetSafe Basic In-Ground Fence is your basic system that is capable of keeping your pet inside the yard without having to spend a small fortune in the process.

We like this particular system because it works with other PetSafe collars. This means you can mix and match collars for your pet’s needs. Also, this system is capable of accommodating multiple collars. So if you have a lot of dogs, you can just purchase new PetSafe collars.

We also like that this system gives you clear boundaries that are easily defined, which helps in the training process. With a few weeks (at most) of working with your dogs, you’ll be able to show your pup the safe areas.

Should your dog go too close to the correction zone, they will get a brief shock until they back away. If you’re worried that the collar is going to harm your dog, the over correction protection feature will shut off the static stimulation if it is activated for more than 30 seconds.

If you’re looking for an in-ground pet containment fence, we feel that this is one of the better ones available. Not only can you mix and match collars to give your pet the best fit, but the system also comes with a limited lifetime warranty. In our opinion, it’s a pretty good deal!
