Typhoon Youth Full Face Motorcycle Helmet Kids DOT Street - Purple (Large)
  • PLEASE PLEASE measure for size, we cannot impress on you enough how important it is that you measure for the correct size. Each manufacturers sizing is different. Measure the circumference of the largest part of the child's head, (usually just above the eyebrows) in inches: Use a paper tape measure or a string and do not pull it too tight, loose like a hat would fit.
  • SIZE CHART Youth Small: 18 to 19, Youth Medium: 19 to 20, Youth Large: 20 to 21, Youth XL: 21 to 22. Head shapes can affect how a helmet fits, the size chart is meant to be a starting point.
  • Comes standard with a clear single lens flip-up shield; Comfortable interior padding that is removable & washable; Standard D-ring strap with comfort padding; Adjustable chin and brow ventilation
  • True youth helmet with a smaller shell, not an over padded adult helmet. Weighs 3 lbs so not meant for anyone too young (less than 5 years old). Meets the DOT standard (FMVSS218). We ensure that the helmets we sell meet the DOT standard by having them tested regularly at an independent test facility.
  • Please be aware that items returned for a refund will be refunded less the original shipping charges including the prepaid return label if one was provided

Whether you’re a kid or an adult, a motorcycle helmet is always the most important safety gear — no matter what. And while everyone would like to think their little one will never get into an accident of any severity, common sense says otherwise. Safety is always key, regardless of your age.

Even if your child only rides with an adult for the occasional leisurely ride through the neighborhood, or is old enough to ride a small motorcycle, four-wheeler, or snowmobile on their own, the quality of the helmet should always come first if you’re making protection a priority.

Thankfully, the Typhoon Youth Full Face Motorcycle Helmet offers the appropriate amount of protection every child needs, This is a true full face helmet that provides an elevated level of safety for the wearer, while still ensuring added comfort, vision, and convenience. While it may be pricey for a kids helmet, the cost is well worth it.

Let’s start with the looks part, since that’s the first thing most kids are going to care about. The Typhoon Youth Full Face Motorcycle Helmet has a legitimate full face look, with a number of different color options and vibrant designs that cater to both girls and boys style preferences.

The helmet is very light in weight, weighing just 3 lbs. The hard outer shell material is DOT-certified, and fully encompasses the entire exterior, aside from the visor area.

The visor itself is clear, and has a wide range of vision on each side. It can also flip up and out of the way in an instant, or be fully removed if desired. Although this visor is clear, you do have some options for different shades or finishes (more on that below.)

The interior of the helmet is full of plash padding all throughout, which not only adds to the overall level of safety, but ensures that the helmet fits properly, stays secure and snug, and feels comfortable during longer periods of use.

We’ll also note that while the helmet does have lots of padding, it’s not done to overcompensate for a larger shell size, as is the case with many inferior kids helmets — many of which are larger helmets that have been overly stuffed with padding to make the inside “smaller.”

The padding itself is removable and washable, so it’s easy to maintain an appropriate level of cleanliness inside. There is also plenty of ventilation vents to allow for heat to escape, and prevent fogging on the visor.

Keep in mind that these are kids helmets, but there are a total of four sizes available for each color. The company has included a customized fitting chart to help you ensure you purchase the proper fit.

What We Like: As mentioned earlier, a lot of kids helmets on the market tend to use adult-sized exterior shells, and then stuff the inside with extra layers of padding so the helmet can fit a smaller head. Not so with the Typhoon Youth Full Face Motorcycle Helmet. This is a real kids helmet in terms of fit, and when the right size is purchased, it fits snug and securely. The multiple color choices are also appreciated, making it easy to find one that matches your kid’s style preferences. Still, above all else, this helmet is primarily about safety, and it definitely meets the mark.

What We Don’t Like: The only real drawback with the Typhoon Youth Full Face Motorcycle Helmet is the mediocre strap design that resembles a belt lop. This makes securing the chin strap a bit cumbersons. A quick-release latch would be a big improvement over this design, especially with the price point.

Buying Advice

Read any of our reviews for helmets and you’ll know that we always stress the importance of fit. Just because you can put it on your head, doesn’t mean it fits. Sizing is always the hardest part of buying a motorcycle helmet, and it’s even harder with kids since they are still growing.

With that said, pay close attention to the sizing chart when purchasing, and make sure you perform the measurements as instructed. If you’re going to err on one side, err on the side of allowing just a small amount of room to grow into.

Oh, and about the visor. If you’d like to get a different type, such as a shaded one for sun glare, or even a reflective visor, you can purchase one at this link, and then swap it out on the helmet.

One more thing to keep in mind: Typhoon offers relatively easy exchanges if you want a different color or size. Should you have an issue, you can simply send the helmet back to them (at your own expense), and they will send you back the requested size or style.

Child safety with a motorcycle is obviously a very serious matter, so it makes sense to pay extra attention the helmet aspect. The Typhoon Youth Full Face Motorcycle Helmet may have a higher price than some other models out there, but it’s for a reason.

This helmet is not only DOT-certified, but also has the right level of comfort, adjustability, and ease of maintenance. The color options are a nice bonus, as are the kids gloves included with purchase, but these are merely additional aspects to an already great helmet that your kid will love.
